Appraises vehicle damage to determine cost of repair for insurance claim settlement.  Provides support to the body shop operation and develops effective business relationships with insurance adjusters and customers.  


  • Examines damaged vehicle to determine extent of structural, body, mechanical, or interior damage.
  • Estimates cost of labor and parts to repair or replace each damaged item.
  • Create and document accurate written estimates that can be presented to the customer and/​or insurance company.​
  • Reviews internal repair cost estimates with Fixed Operations Manager.
  • Determines feasibility of repair versus replacement of parts, such as bumpers, fenders, and doors.
  • Prepares insurance forms to indicate repair cost estimates and recommendations.
  • Estimates cost of repainting, converting to special purposes, or customizing undamaged vehicles.
  • Works with the insurance companies to manage the claims for our customers.
  • Follows up to ensure customer satisfaction with repairs.
  • Ensure that the estimates and documentation follow the guidelines of the insurance company’s policies and procedures.​
  • Re-create, audit and analyze insurance written estimates.​
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with insurance adjusters and customers to ensure repeat and referral business.
  • Greets customers as they arrive in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Answers incoming phone calls in a prompt, polite and professional manner.
  • Screens calls, directs them to the proper party, and/or obtains enough information to allow for follow-up that is convenient for the customer.
  • Opens repair orders for all vehicles coming into the body shop for repairs.
  • Receives cash, checks and credit card payments from customers and records the amounts received.
  • Closes repair orders on the computer system in a timely manner.
  • Files repair orders.
  • Follows up on body shop accounts receivable to maintain satisfactory levels of payment.
  • Prepares purchase orders for all vendors.
  • Writes estimates subject to the Body Shop Manager’s approval.
  • Assists Body Shop Manager and Fixed Operations Manager as necessary (i.e. estimates, vendors, etc.).
  • Maintains a professional appearance and a neat work area.


  • Collision industry related experience preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of automobile repair estimating.
  • Able to make both objective and subjective decisions on repair process, parts and timing. 
  • Excellent sales abilities and overall communication skills.
  • Able to relate well to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued learning by ongoing participation in I-CAR training and other industry-required training. 
  • I-CAR certifications preferred.  I-CAR certifications preferred are as follows: Aluminum Repair, Replacement and Welding; Collision Repair 2000; Electronics for Collision Repair; Finish Matching; Glass Replacement; Steering and Suspension; and Understanding Collision Repair.
  • Must have strong computer skills; experience with estimating programs is preferred.
  • Must have excellent phone etiquette.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills.
  • Must have the ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
  • Must have a professional appearance and manner.  

Work Schedule

The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 1.0 hour meal break (45 hours per week).  This is subject to change at any time per management’s discretion.
