Summary

Provide the opportunity to expand knowledge in the Automotive Technician career area by being exposed to the automotive service and parts departments.   All 8 ASE  and G1 task areas will be covered while shadowing the Service Technician, Parts Advisor and Service Advisor positions.

Responsibilities

  • Follows the leadership of the Service Manager.
  • Maintains good working habits and performs all assigned duties relative to the trade, including:
    • Engine repair
    • Automatic transmission and transaxle repair
    • Manual drivetrain and axle repair
    • Suspension and steering repair
    • Brake repair
    • Electrical/electronic systems repair
    • Heating and air conditioning repair
    • Engine performance repair
    • Auto maintenance and light repair
  • Listens carefully, follows instruction and asks questions.
  • Assists in performing work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Greets all customers entering the service and parts area with a friendly, upbeat attitude, answers customer questions and directs customers to the appropriate person or location.
  • Maintains high customer satisfaction standards.
  • Demonstrates courteous behavior towards fellow employees and all customers (retail, wholesale, internal, and shop) and maintains a professional appearance and manner.
  • Assists with answering phone calls, regarding price quotes, scheduling appointments and work in process.
    • Takes time with customers to understand their concerns, displays empathy and understanding and always acts in a polite manner.
    • Assists in generating repair orders with all fields filled out.
    • Reviews the diagnosis and recommendations with the technician to fully understand.  Assists with providing a complete and accurate written cost estimate for labor and parts. Addresses the customer’s original concern first at all times.
    • Assists with checking on progress of repair throughout the day.  Keeps the customer informed when more time is needed or more repairs are needed.  Calls when repairs are completed, reviews the repair order with the customer and aids the customer in picking up their vehicle.
  • Receives payment from retail customers or obtains credit authorization.
    • Keeps department forms, menus and pricing guides up-to-date.
  • Pulls and fills parts orders from stock, replenishes assigned inventory daily, makes sure all internal requests for parts are billed on service repair order or to a stock number, and checks in and posts daily orders to inventory.
  • Keeps workspace and shop area neat, clean, and free from hazardous conditions.
  • Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Informs immediate supervisor of any safety concern or improper conduct observed.

Qualifications

  • Must be self-motivated and have a positive attitude.
  • Must be able to communicate well with others and follow directions.
  • Knowledge of basic automotive principles preferred.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must have the ability to operate manual transmission vehicles.
  • Customer service background preferred.
  • Automotive vehicle knowledge preferred.

Work Schedule

Must work minimum of 93 hours of live work time to meet the requirements of the Internship program. Service Department hours include Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.  Work schedule will allow student to continue with the automotive program of study.
